Tuesday Tales - Wood

Artemis blinked hard to bring herself back to her senses. When her eyes focused, she found herself staring at a broad, muscular chest. She huffed as she raised her head to identify her captor.

When her gaze met a pair of heavenly blue eyes, the pain in her arm was quickly replaced with a sharp jolt of electricity that reverberated through every nerve.

“Again, where do you think you’re going?” Michael demanded.

It took a long second for Artemis to speak. Before she did, she reared back and kicked him in the shin. “I’m getting out of here. You have no right to keep me here. Do you know who I am?’

The fallen angel didn’t seem too phased by her assault. “I know exactly who you are. I have no idea why, and frankly how we are keeping a Greek goddess here. But I don’t ask questions. I just work here. There are powers that be who have reasons for their actions.”

He nearly lifted her off her feet and hauled her the few feet she had traveled back to her cell. She expected to hit the wood bed with a force that would crack it. Instead, Michael was gentle as he nudged her inside.

He stared at her, holding the prison door open but filling the doorframe with his body.

She could make another run for it. There was a small space to squeeze through. She had to get back to her family. She had to figure out who these people were and what they wanted with her family.

Instead, she froze in place and returned his gaze. Her heart pounded in her chest. No man had ever had this kind of effect on her, not since Orion. However, then again, he wasn’t a man, was he?

“Belphegor,” Michael addressed.

The rotund guard nearly fell off his stool as he scrambled to his feet. “What?”

“Typhon is looking for you. I’ll stay here and watch her.”

Belphegor shuffled from the dimly lit room, muttering as he went. “You obviously want to do more than watch her. Even I can see that.”
