Michael stormed through the cavern, ignoring the terrifying noise around him. When he first joined Typhon and his minions, the screeching gave him nightmares. Nothing he had experienced before compared to it.

Now, it was just background chatter. Well, except for the hissing. That was new. It had to be some pretty brave snakes to live on a mountainside with a horde of demons. The heat alone should have driven them out.

He didn’t stop his stride until he was enveloped in the chilly air of the prison. With one last swing of his foot before he stopped, he gave the stool that Belphegor was perched on a swift kick. The wood bounced a couple of times between the metal of the bars and the stone wall before it splintered.

“Are you that happy to see me again, huh?”

Michael raised his gaze to Artemis. Just moments ago, the goddess had been vulnerable to him. She acted like she believed in him.

Now she stood, her face stone cold and emotionless. Her arms were crossed over her chest. Had her powers not been suppressed, he’d probably be turned into a chipmunk by now.

He turned to her and mimicked her, leaning against the wall for support. It seemed that they did this often to each other. “Bad news, Your Excellency. I get to watch over you exclusively from now on.”

She smirked at him. “You’re an improvement from that last dude. Not by much, but you are.”

“Not sure if I should take that as a compliment.”

“Take it however you want.”

Michael fought back the grin that tried to spread across his face. Her sudden icy demeanor didn’t change his heart. He was still her protector. That was until she could protect herself.

“How did you get demoted to taking care of me again?” she queried. “A bit ago, you couldn’t run fast enough to get away from me.”

He shrugged. “Lucky I guess.”

  4. I love the title, too, and yes -- they definitely have chemistry!! Can't wait to see how this is going to play out. How long will he be her protector and will she all under his spell or he under hers. Oh, wait. He already has! Great story!
