Tuesday Tales - Run

 

Welcome to Tuesday Tales! This week we are with the Gods of DC and the word prompt is “run”.

Artemis glanced around her cell. Nope, nothing. Her next option was to frisk herself down to search for something, anything that she could use as a tool.

Her hand stopped when she hit her belt buckle. It was more ornamental than functional. However, it was the only thing she had that might do the job.

Flicking the buckle apart with one finger, she whipped the leather through the loops of her jeans. It was going to be a challenge to toss the piece of metal in the right place to catch and drag the keys to her.

She dropped to her knees. Focusing on her target, she lobbed the end of the belt towards the keys.

A growl slipped from her lips as she missed. She tugged it back for another attempt. This time, the prong slipped behind the ring.

Bingo.

The clash of metal on metal rustled the guard from his sleep. He cracked an eye open but it quickly shut again. She shuffled and let out a loud snore.

Artemis held her breath until she thought she would choke. She let it out in a long sigh then lowered her chest to the stone floor. Slowly she reeled in the keys. It felt like it took an eternity, and she knew from experience how long that was. She was a goddess and had lived that long.

She scooped up her prize and then scrambled to her feet. Her hands trembled as she fumbled with the lock.

The guard nearly fell off his chair as the door swung open. Artemis gave him a shove as she sprinted past. The more distance she could put between her and her captors, the better.

Her escape was cut short when she collided with a hard, muscular body. A large hand gripped her bicep so hard it hurt.

“Where do you plan to run off to?” a voice boomed above her.
