Tuesday Tales - Active

Welcome to Tuesday Tales! This week we are with the Gods of DC and the word prompt is “active”.

Demeter cocked her head at her little brother. Never in her wildest, active imagination did she think she could stand there and have a normal conversation with the god who stole her daughter. But here they were. “How are they doing?”

Hades shook his head. “It’s obvious that there are no motorcycles on Olympus. Ares, Freddy, Deidre and Mack are doing well. The rest, not so much.”

“Poseidon?”

“Worst of them all.”

Demeter slapped a hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh. Hades chuckled as well.

The noise of the motors stilled and the dust began to settle. Their family mulled around the machines, setting them upright and looking for wounds. They were a battered lot. The thought made Demeter’s heart sink in her chest.

“We don’t have a lot of time,” she reminded Hades. “Who knows what is happening to Artemis. We’re not sure if she’s still alive.”

Hades shot her a side-eye. “I know, Sis. She’s alive. Thanatos is monitoring everything very carefully. He would know if she crossed the river Styx and she hasn’t.”

“Can you trust him to tell you?”

Hades scowled at her. He seemed significantly offended. “Hey now. That’s my friend you’re talking about. We run a well-oiled ship in the Underworld. We’re far more efficient than you gods up here.”

“Sorry, sorry.” She raised her hands in mock surrender. “I didn’t mean to offend.”

The sound of boots shuffling in the dirt tore their attention from each other. Poseidon was limping his way to them. His leather pants were ripped at the knee and his sunglasses lay lopsided on the top of his head.

“Those cursed machines should be banned,” he muttered.

“Good luck getting that past Heph,” Demeter replied.

“I figured you wouldn’t have an issue,” Hades added. “You ride a dolphin like a champ.”

  1. Hilarious! He can ride a dolphin but not a cycle. Love the way the characters are so human even though they are gods. I hate to think the Underworld is better organized than we are up here, but that could very well be true. So much going on down there to keep track of! Great excerpt!

  3. Love it. I would think a dolphin would be harder to ride, but what do I know, right? LOL!
