Deidre gave Apollo a look, her eyes wide. The god didn’t have to ask why. “I will go with him before he gets himself killed.”

“Thank you.”

He hopped to his feet and followed Khalil. He glanced back at Deidre. She sat alone, her delicate hands wrapped around a mug and an anxious expression on her face. She stared into space like she was trying to figure it all out.

Before he could make it on a stool, Khalil was already striking up a conversation with a grizzled, gray haired biker with a beard to his chest.

“I’m looking for a woman,” Khalil began.

The man cocked an eyebrow at him. “What kind of woman?”

Khalil sat back a bit on his perch like he was stunned. He surveyed the room for a moment then leaned back in like he was about to tell the biggest secret he had. “A little taller than you, long brown hair, has an attitude.”

The man nodded as he stroked his beard as if he was in thought. “Do you like freckles? I’ve got someone in mind. She charges a lot though. I hope you have cash. Trust me, she’s worth it though.”

Khalil turned enough to grin at Apollo. “See, this wasn’t so hard.” He turned back to his new friend. “I have cash. Point me in her direction so I can take her home.”

“Nope.” Apollo stood and grabbed the djinn by the back of his jacket. He hauled him to his feet. “Thanks, but we are actually not interested.”

“But we found her,” Khalil protested.

“No, we didn’t.” Apollo nearly dragged him back to their table. Once they got there, he kicked the chair out. As gentle as he could, he nudged Khalil into it.

“I can’t believe you took me away from that.” Khalil threw his hands up in disbelief. “We were so close.”

“The dude was talking about a hooker, love, not my sister.” Apollo thumbed towards the djinn as he turned his attention to Deidre. “Can you believe what he almost did?”

Deidre didn’t acknowledge him. Her gaze was laser focused to a dark corner of the tavern.

“Deidre?” the god asked.

She stood then kicked her own chair back to get out of her spot. There was clearly a mission in her steps. “I have a hunch.”
