Tuesday Tales - Lamp

Welcome to the new home of my blog! I wasn't very pleased with the way my website blog worked so I will be posting my Tuesday Tales and any other random thoughts that I have here.

This week we are with the Gods of DC and the word prompt is "anxious". Be sure to check out the other Tuesday Tales by clicking here!

“Noted. At the very least it tells me to guard my thoughts around you from here on.”

Artemis chuckled. “Good luck with that, big guy.” She glanced around the room. “I’ve been down here for a few days. Can I get some more light? A floor lamp? A skylight? I miss the sun.”

Michael shook his head. “You’re pretty far down to get any sunshine. I can ask if I can plug something in to brighten up the place.”

Artemis scowled. “Can’t you just, you know…” She scrunched up her finger then made a popping sound with her lips.

Michael bit back a laugh. “What are you doing?”

Artemis huffed. The whole thing was clearly frustrating her. “Use your power to light the fires. I know what you are.”

“And that would be?”

“I know you’re a demon.”

Michael made a buzzer sound. “Eert. Wrong answer. I work for demons, but I’m not one of them.”

“You aren’t the only one who has come in to harass me. They enjoy showing off what they can do. If they think they’re scaring me, they’re not. So don’t be afraid, little one. I won’t think any less of you.”

Michael shook his head. His long hair gently whipped his cheeks as he did so. “Again. Not a demon.”

“So they let some random mortal watch over me.”

“I didn’t say that. I’m not mortal. I’m…never mind.”

For one brief moment, his mind drifted back to home. The vision of pearly gates and utter perfection filled his thoughts.

“Oh. You aren’t a demon.”

Shit. He did it again.

“So? You know the truth,” he snarled. “What smartass comment do you have for me now?”

“You’ll have to give me a minute,” Artemis replied.

“And why’s that?”

“It’s hard for me to fathom giving up what you had for a woman. You had everything and you just…fell.”

“Yep. Fell in love and fell from heaven.”

“And your wings?”

Michael stared her in the eye. Suddenly the narrow corridor got tighter. He was surrounded on either side of him by a mass of fluttering black feathers.

“There you go,” he stated simply.
